Trend Report: the bold choker necklace

The choker [or very fitted necklace the sits snugly around ones neck like a turtle neck] is by far this season's boldest statement piece of jewelry! Pairing well with low or plunging necklines the choker first made a fashion appearance around the time of English Queen [and notorious bold woman!] Anne Boleyn (remember the pearl "B" necklace worn by Natalie Portman playing Anne Boleyn in "The Other Boleyn Sister"). The choker was immensely popular in the late 19th century partly due to England's Alexandra, Princess of Wales [precursor to Diana!] who wore thick rows of pearls and velvet, setting quite the trend.

Here we showcase the Isabella Choker by Justine M Couture.

The classic way to secure a choker is with a ribbon at the back, adding a delicate flutter of feminine satin to counter the boldness of the neckline at the front.

Pantone announces their pick for the colors of 2016...welcome soft pinks and blues!

Now that Pantone has announced their pick for the colors of 2016 [Rose Quartz and Serenity] so we thought we'd show off a few pinks and blues of our own!

Check out our pink vintage stone embellished Colette Hair Ornaments:

And did you know that Justine M Couture has quite a few pieces with the option of a little something blue added in? Yes pieces like our gorgeous Olive headpiece have the option of adding a special Blue Swarovski Crystal hidden on the back so only you know it's there.

So if you love the latest bridal fashion trends, colors and fashions...we've got you covered!

Bridal Fashion Trends for 2016: Feathers!

Now here is another trend after our own hearts: feathers!! The allure... the drama...the early Hollywood Screen Stars knew you just cannot get any more dramatic than feather accents! Check out this fabulous gown by Vera Wang with black ostrich.

Oh and did we mention Justine M Couture has the most gorgeous ostrich feather trimmed veil; the Swan Lake?

A big thank you to This Modern Romance for the above stunning image of the Justine M Couture Swan Lake veil.

Vera knows there's no better way to stop traffic than with feathers and we couldn't agree more!

Bridal Fashion Trends for 2016: Blush Gowns

We love keeping up with all the gown designer trends coming down the runway! Here's one of our most favorite styles for the fashionable bride to watch for in 2016 - the romantic blush toned, highly embellished bridal gowns by designer Jenny Packham!

And of course, a few thoughts on how to pair this beautiful trend with the perfect Justine M Couture accessories!

We think there are two ways to go with this type of strong gown design; equally bold or subtle. We would suggest something simple in design yet similar in sparkle like our Eddie Headband [this is one of the bold options!].

The Eddie Headband, above, is unique and feminine yet can hold its own and has that strong Edwardian flavor [hello Downton Abbey!] that pairs perfectly with this beaded gown. Another bold option is the Amalie Headband below, this elegant hair accessory is truly fit for a queen!

Or we also love the Iris Headband, below, for a more subtle option. It's so important that your accessories accent and support your gown not fight with it. Either way we just love this gown thank you Jenny Packham!

Coming soon the Ocean Confetti multi purpose piece

With its delicate spray of sparkle and nature inspired accents, the Ocean Confetti piece is a bold yet feminine accent to a bride's wedding day style. This piece can be used in a variety of ways to give very different looks and pair with many different gown styles plus it has a versatility that can allow it to be worn for years to come.

Why we love Southern Bride Magazine and all the Southern Brides who read it

What is it about a southern bride and a southern wedding?  The old-school style charm, the rich landscape, the historic beauty of the cities and buildings?

Maybe it's all those manners since justine and COUTURE's lead designer is from England we have a particular appreciation for a land of people who love old fashioned pastimes and good manners!

image.jpg

Of course it helps when the South has such an amazing magazine and blog as Southern bride!

Bracelets, bracelets, bracelets

Girls have always known that the bracelets look gorgeous and make you feel more powerful [hello Wonder Woman!]

For over 7000 years bracelets have been a symbol of beauty, spirit and power. The history of Egyptian bracelets is as old as 5000 BC when bracelets were made of bones, stones and woods. The Scarab Bracelet, one of the most recognized symbols of ancient Egypt, represented rebirth and regeneration.

Recent discoveries by Russian archaeologists have found what they believe to be a bracelet, excavated in Siberia and dated to around 40,000 BC!

These beautiful [and dare we say powerful] bracelets are just a few from the Justine M Couture Collection…enjoy!

Pairings: a Lea-Ann Belter Bridal Gown paired with a Justine M Couture veil

“Once in awhile, right in the middle of an ordinary life, love gives us a fairy tale.” - unknown

bride: Erica | gown: Annabelle via The Ivory Suite Bridal Boutique | photo: Heidi Ryder Photography | Lea-Ann Belter Bridal Gown designs can be found at The Ivory Suite Bridal Salon and The White Flower Bridal Boutique [both of whom carry Justine M Couture]

About the designer:

Lea–Ann Belter has been making beautiful gowns for a select group of brides for close to two decades.

Forever painting and drawing, Lea–Ann knew from a young age her future lay in her creativity.

Upon graduation from an art–focused high school, Lea–Ann continued her formal education at the Sheridan College of Crafts and Design where she specialized in glass and textiles. She then studied fashion design at the International Academy of Design and Merchandising, becoming a finalist in the Dubonnet awards, given to Canada’s top fashion students.

Earning her diploma at IADM, Lea–Ann trained with a couturier where she further refined the characteristics that define her work: flawless execution and impeccable quality. That year, Lea–Ann’s commitment to perfecting her craft made her a finalist for the International Woolmark Prize, an award for emerging fashion designers.

But Lea–Ann really found her calling when she designed a wedding dress for her brother’s fiance. In creating that first bridal gown, Lea–Ann’s meticulous execution and timeless aesthetic harmonized with her inclination to design for modern, professional women. Before long, Lea–Ann opened her first designer wedding gown boutique in Toronto’s exclusive Yorkville area.

Five years later, Lea–Ann’s vision for a line of modern, timeless bridal dresses became a reality when she launched the Lea–Ann Belter Bridal gown collection through a network of retailers. In 2005, Lea–Ann opened the first Lea–Ann Belter Bridal flagship store on Toronto’s Queen Street East, and in 2007 she was named Wedding Gown Designer of the Year at the Canadian Wedding Industry Awards.

Since then, Lea–Ann has extended her reach, making her wedding dress collection available in a curated selection of bridal boutiques across North America and Europe. In 2012, Lea–Ann moved Lea–Ann Belter Bridal and her designer wedding gown boutique to their permanent home in Toronto on the corner of Dundas Street and Broadview Avenue, where she plans to spend another 20 years (or more!) designing and crafting wedding gowns.
